No matter how neat and tidy you are, your floors, carpets, and rugs get dirty. From accidental spills, tracking in the outdoors on your shoes, and dust from your air ducts, your home’s floors can get pretty yucky. Heading into fall and winter, we Minnesotan’s spend more time indoors so here are 5 easy tricks to get your floors ready.
Natural Stone Floors
Natural stone has some natural enemies: acidic products like vinegar, ammonia, and bleach. To preserve your stone floors, choose a cleaner that won’t react with the minerals and is pH-neutral (like dish soap).
Tile Floors
One of the easiest floor surfaces to clean is tile. Make your own cleaner with items you have right in your kitchen! Simply mix together 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1 drop of dish soap. Pour into a spray bottle and with a microfiber cloth or mop, wipe the tile surface. For an even deeper clean, steam the tile and grout.
Carpets
Carpets, unlike other flooring surfaces, play by their own set of rules. If you’re looking for a deep clean, steaming is your best bet. For everyday cleaning, going over your floor with a good vacuum will do the job.
A clean place makes a happy space!
Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floors add a beautiful touch to just about any home but something as simple as standing water can spell disaster.
To clean one of the more high-maintenance flooring materials, but first, determine if your hardwood floors are sealed or not. If they are unsealed, do not use water but instead clean them with mineral oil and finish with a coat of wax.
If your hardwood floors are sealed, a regular mixture of soap and water should do the trick.
Linoleum Floors
One of the most prevalent flooring materials, linoleum may be one of easiest floor surfaces to clean. Before washing the floor, take your broom and sweep up any loose debris, dust, and dirt.
